My daughter and I came across this sign a few days ago. She easily read it, and had a good laugh as I stumbled through it. At first glance I brushed off the words. But once I took a second look, I realized that it had merit. Never one to miss out on a teachable moment, I asked her what she thought.
She said, “It’s easy Dad, your eyes reflect the image but your brain does all the work.”
“Excellent,” I said. “Now, do you think vision in the brain and vision in the business world are related?”
She thought for a moment. I could see the wheels turning.
“Is it because you need to see the eye doctor to keep your vision healthy?”
“Very true!” I chuckled. “But here’s a different way to think about it.
“In business, you may not be able to see the company’s vision with your eyes. You have to be able to visualize it in your mind’s eye before you can physically see it in reality.
“In order for a company to be successful, you need a leader that can translate that vision into clearly defined objectives.”
“Okay Dad, you switched lanes but I get it. It’s kind of like how you started out. You had this business idea in your head, and eventually it became a reality.
“Yep, took lots of work but we eventually got it right.
Just like your visual perception, true vision is being able to see the unseen with your brain, but still have the drive to push forward and go for it.
